Obituaries

       Gerald E. McDaniel, 90, of Avon Park, Florida passed away January 24, 2010 at Good Shepard Hospice in Lakeland, Florida.
 
       He was born near Garden Grove, Iowa on April 11, 1919.  His parents were William and Vesta McDaniel.  He married his high school sweetheart, Mabel Marshall of Weldon, Ia on February 26, 1939.  Moving to California to build B17 bombers during World War II.  After the war, Gerald opened a small service station in California.  Moving back to Iowa he went to work for Firestone Tire and Rubber company in Des Moines until his retirement is 1982. 
  
       After several years of traveling the country in their motor home, Gerald and Mabel settled in Avon Park in 1989.  He is survived by a daughter Marie (Richard) Gravitt of Avon Park, Florida and a son Gary (Lillian) McDaniel of Kimberling City, Mo., 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was proceeding in death by his wife Mabel, parents, brothers Harold and Maurice and a sister Gladys Saner.
